Face shield

The face shield bearing the Estonian logo of the University of Tartu has three parts: plastic sheet made of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), headband and elastic strap. It covers the entire face and is suitable for people wearing glasses. It can be cleaned with disinfectants containing alcohol. 

In March 2020, the Product Design Department of Estonian Academy of Arts initiated a hackathon for a protective face shield. In a short period, product design students came up with several ideas, among which the most efficient was selected. Mõtus Lõmaš Kama, Karl Kukk, Hanna-Liisa Haukka and Erik Heiki Veelmaa created a solution that could be immediately and rapidly produced also in enterprises that do not normally work in the field but can use their stock of material. The demand for face shields picked up rapidly and continues to be high.
