Conditions of saleThis special issue of the Journal of Estonian and Finno-Ugric Linguistics is dedicated to Renate Pajusalu, Professor of General Linguistics at the University of Tartu, to commemorate her 60th birthday. Colleagues and scholars within Renate’s fields of expertise have contributed to this special issue, which features 13 articles written by 36 authors. Each article in this collection has been carefully selected to reflect Renate’s broad research interests. These interests span referential devices (including demonstratives and personal deixis), communication norms and politeness, discourse markers and the formulation of questions and requests, case constructions, and verb polysemy. In recognition of Renate’s pioneering role in establishing Estonia’s Linguistics Olympiads, the final section of the collection provides an overview of the Linguistics Olympiads’ history and current state.
