A cap badge with the portico of the university’s main building and the year of founding the university in polished silver is attached to the middle of the velvet ribbon above the cap’s peak. The cap badge is made of 925 silver and its dimensions are 16 × 16 × 12.6 mm

All members and alumni of the university have the right to wear the university’s cap. People who have been issued the cap have the right of unlimited duration to wear it

Along with the cap, also the cap pouch can be bought (will be added to the price of the cap). The dimensions of the pouch are 30 × 40 cm
The Cirrus studio connects the jewellery artists Merilin Pedastsaar, Kertu Tuberg and Maarja Niinemägi, visiting lecturers at Viljandi Culture Academy. According to authors, the design of the cap badge is inspired by its minimalist form and its surface finishing splendidly opens the silhouette of the University of Tartu portico. The cap badge forms an integrated whole with other symbol jewellery of the university
